Reiki Essay
BALANCE, REST & HEALING
When health is good, it is of no concern and does not occupy the mind at all, but if there is any failure, then suddenly a sense of crisis may arise. We suggest that it is better to take care of oneself little by little throughout one’s life, and to train quietly in sensitivity and various healing methods. Better to be a little prepared, at least to manage whatever less serious inconveniences come our way.
The purpose of this essay is to encourage people of all ages to train themselves in sensitivity and self-care. Bear in mind that we write entirely from experience and personal opinion.
We do not advocate a fussy or self-obsessed approach. From our experience, people who focus on their health too much are sometimes nervous and unable to relax easily. Those with an overly restrictive diet may cause themselves low-level malnutrition, resulting in weight-loss and low energy. We ourselves are very sensitive to air-conditioning, but we try to counter this tendency by caring less about it, avoiding pre-emptive concern, and carrying a warm muffler. That is all that is needed.
It seems to us that women are more likely than men to adopt a worrisome and fussy attitude to health and well-being. Men, on the other hand, may go too far in the opposite direction, taking insufficient rest and ignoring the basics of healthy nutrition and a healthy lifestyle; perhaps there is a subconscious feeling that someone else will take care of them?
Anyone reading this should soon understand that the correct course of action is the “middle way”. Gautama Buddha reached this conclusion after great suffering and very extensive self-imposed ascetic practices. Even if we do not believe in Buddhism, surely we can believe in common sense? In the longer term, the middle way is certainly the best way. And since humans can expect to live even a hundred years, then playing a short-term game is really not very sensible.
REIKI
What has all this to do with Reiki?
Reiki works at all levels, from the physical to the spiritual, as if under universal command, often said to be “for our higher good”. In addition, Reiki provides an opportunity to be still, silent, and to set aside all worries. A Tibetan Buddhist master, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, writes in a direct and humorous way that one simple benefit of meditation is this: for whatever length of time one is engaged in it, one is not bothering anyone else or creating negative karma. I think we can add this to the many obvious benefits of Reiki.
Simply put: Reiki provides rest and relaxation for the body, mind, and spirit, whilst healing and correcting various physical ailments and even helping to balance character traits, the many weaknesses that we humans possess in abundance.
SUMMARY
BALANCE: Practice moderation in all things, even those that are considered “good” or “healthy”. REST: Do not overdo things again and again. Work and livelihood require great effort, but intermittent rest and self-care are essential, or the results could be very serious. HEALING: Learn and use Reiki and other natural healing techniques so that you are ready in case of a crisis, and have the knowledge and experience to help yourself and others.
